
MISAEL CALDERÓN

Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, in September 1977, Misael Calderón discovered the fascinating art of bonsai in 2000, embarking on a path of deep learning and dedication. After years of effort, discipline, and study, he earned the title of bonsai master in 2011, solidifying his commitment to this ancient practice. In 2012, his knowledge and artistic sensibility were recognized by Master Pedro Morales, who certified him as a judge, granting him greater responsibility within the world of bonsai.
Training and Mentors
His commitment to excellence has led him to continuously seek technical and aesthetic refinement at an international level. He has participated in intensive workshops and seminars with some of the most influential names in modern and traditional bonsai, enriching his technique and vision. Among his mentors are:
• The Japanese master Kunio Kobayashi.
• Chinese expert Zhao Qingquan.
• Indonesian master Budi Sulistyo.
• Shohin specialist Suthin Sukosolvisit.
This comprehensive training is complemented by his current membership in the prestigious Puerto Rican school of European master Mauro Stemberger, solidifying an artistic vision that merges ancient tradition with contemporary trends in the art of bonsai.
Legacy and Leadership
Over the years, he has maintained an active presence in numerous clubs and organizations, sharing his experience, fostering the community, and helping new enthusiasts. His career reached a new milestone in 2024 when he received an invitation from master Pedro Morales to assume the management of the Futago Bonsai nursery, a distinction that reaffirms his legacy and leadership in the art.
For him, bonsai is not just an artistic practice, but a path of balance, connection with nature, and personal growth.
