

Born in Venezuela and based in Puerto Rico since 2002, Yrene C. Vásquez is a multifaceted artist whose practice encompasses bonsai cultivation, fashion design, and ceramics. Drawing on a diverse background that includes studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Carabobo and a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design from the Brimen Fashion Institute, Yrene integrates scientific precision with aesthetic fluidity in each of her pieces.
As a certified Bonsai Master and co-owner of the Futago Bonsai School, she possesses a deep understanding of Japanese aesthetics, an influence that resonates strongly in her current ceramic work. Since rediscovering clay in 2021, she has pursued rigorous training at prestigious institutions such as the Art League of San Juan and Puerto Rico Ceramics & Art Store, studying under mentors like Lorraine De Castro and María Soledad.
Yrene specializes in hand-turned and handcrafted pottery, sculpture, and the design of custom bonsai pots. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the 8th National Bonsai Exhibition in Rochester, New York. Most recently, she was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the 2025 North American Bonsai Pottery Competition for her piece titled "Sea."
